    No experience necessary!  Learn to Row is an introduction to sculling that focuses on the fundamentals of sculling (rowing with two oars). Individuals will be taken step by step through nomenclature, safety maneuvers, and independent boat handling skills. This eight-hour course will provide you with the skill set to safely row a single scull. Class is 9 a.m.-noon Sept. 24-25. Enrollment is capped at eight students. Another class will be offered in October. Centerstone's 20th Anniversary Life;Story 5K/10K Run and Walk for Suicide Prevention follows a scenic route around the lake and back. You may also participate virtually - run or walk anytime, anywhere from Sept. 17-24. After the race, stay for the program and awards, with featured speaker Marine Corps Maj. Gen. (Ret.) James S. "Hammer" Hartsell, executive director of the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs. Race fees are at the link below.

    My Hometown Fest was founded by Sertoma Club of Greater Sarasota in spring 2016 as a fundraiser to support the club’s charitable activities for children and adults. These include Sertoma Kids Speech and Language Center, which serves families regardless of their ability to pay. All profits from My Hometown Fest support the Sertoma Club of Greater Sarasota and Sertoma Kids Speech and Language Center. Both are area nonprofits that serve children and adults struggling with speech, language and hearing challenges. Each year, My Hometown Fest draws thousands of people from Florida’s Suncoast for a day of fun featuring food from dozens of area restaurants, craft beer samples from around the country, and live music from the region’s best bands. The event features plenty of family friendly activities as well. Since its founding in 2016, My Hometown Fest has raised more than $50,000 in direct support for local children and adults battling with speech, language and hearing challenges, and all funds raised during the event stay right here in our area!
