Spirit of America Camp (Boaters Safety Power Paddle)

Spirit of America Camp (Boaters Safety Power / Paddle) (Ages 10-14)

The Spirit of America is a national youth boating and water safety program that gets kids (ages 10-14) on the water to teach boating, seamanship, and drowning prevention. Rather than being a specific “boat class,” it is an immersive, hands-on educational camp where students operate a wide variety of watercraft. This is an exciting and rare chance for students to earn their boater’s license!

Key Program Features

The curriculum allows students to learn by doing in a safe, non-traditional classroom environment. Core highlights of the class include:

  • Multidisciplinary Training: Students rotate through and pilot different human-powered, sail, and power watercraft. This typically includes canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, sailboats, and motorized boats (like Jon boats).
  • Safety & Licensing: The program includes state-approved boater education. Students work toward obtaining their official state safe boating certificates while also learning mandatory water rescue and drowning prevention skills.
  • Life Skills: Beyond driving, the camp focuses on building self-esteem, teamwork, self-control, and responsible behavior among youth
