ONE-DAY PADDLE ADVENTURE FAQ & OVERVIEW
Drop Off/Pick Up: You may drop your child off on the ground level of our Finish Tower on Regatta Island (map is attached). We will have a camper sign in and out sheet. Camp will run from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Drop off begins at 7:30 a.m. and pick up ends at 5:30 p.m.
PFDs: All campers are required to wear a PFD (Personal Flotation Device) when they are on the water. One of our first discussions is this requirement as well as how to properly size and wear a PFD. Nathan Benderson Park will provide all equipment include your campers PFD for the duration of camp.
Lifeguard Certification CPR/First Aid: All of our counselors are First Aid and CPR certified and hold a Florida boaters license.
Weather: We will keep a close eye on the weather. If inclement weather arises, we will get everyone into shelter in our finish tower. We have a number of indoor activities planned for such occasions.
Alligators: As with any body of water in Florida, alligators MAY transit through our lake. NBP has a comprehensive mitigation plan for the removal of nuisance alligators when they are spotted and/or reported. This plan is monitored by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission.
Cancellation Policy: If for any reason you need to cancel your week of camp, our policy (which is detailed on our website) includes collecting a 3% cancellation fee.
Typical Day of Camp: Campers will experience Stand Up Paddleboard, Kayaking, and Canoes. Campers will learn nomenclature as well as a fundamental understanding of each discipline of boating that our camp offers. NBP believes in a hands-on, experiential learning experience for each of its campers. Because the duration of this camp we will take a lunch break in the Benders Family Finish Tower where campers will watch a movie and spend some time out of the sun.
What if my child has participated in this camp already? We expect to have a mixture of both new and returning campers each year. The camp is designed to both educate newcomers and provide enhanced skill training to those with previous experience.
How to prepare for Camp: Please make sure your child comes prepared with the following:
· Please apply sunscreen at home and send some with your child if you would like them to reapply during the day.
· Water shoes (or shoes that can get wet)
· Large bottle of water. We will have the ability to refill water bottles
· Lunch – we recommend packing extra snacks for the camp, as your campers will be very active, and tend to be hungrier as a result.
· Please make sure your child has a healthy breakfast prior to arriving at camp.
