The Board of Directors Insurance Committee of Nathan Benderson Park Conservancy Inc., a Florida not-for-profit corporation, has scheduled a special meeting for January 25, 2023, at 10:00 AM. The meeting will be held via Zoom. Please contact Sandy Sacks by email at ssacks@nathanbendersonpark.org or by phone at 941-358-7275, ext. 5807, to receive information on how to join the meeting. Specific business will include a discussion regarding insurance for the park. All are welcome to attend.

Maintenance Technician

POSITION SUMMARY

The Maintenance Technician for the Nathan Benderson Park Conservancy, Inc. in Sarasota, Florida is frontline support for the Facility Operations department, ensuring facilities and grounds are well-maintained, safe and clean.  The Maintenance Tech will report to the Vice President – Operations and will work as part of a team dedicated to driving the success of Nathan Benderson Park and the Conservancy by providing a safe and pristine environment for park users.

Nathan Benderson Park is a 600-acre Sarasota County park, operated and managed by the Conservancy, a private 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was created for this purpose.  Since 2014, the park has hosted numerous international, national, regional and local events, averaging more than 100 events per year.  Nathan Benderson Park was built as a multi-sport event center with a focus on water sports, and has established itself as the No. 1 rowing and paddling competition venue in North America and one of the top three in the world.  Nathan Benderson Park’s four priorities are to:

  • Establish and maintain a world-class multi-purpose event center that will enable a return on investment to benefit taxpayers and the state of Florida
  • Be an Olympic-level training center for regional, national and international athletes
  • Promote a better quality of life through health and wellness by providing opportunities to walk, run, bike, row, fish and more
  • Provide an entry point into aquatic and sports program through community outreach

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Nathan Benderson Park is looking for an enthusiastic advocate for sports, fitness and entertainment in Sarasota-Bradenton who has the following skills and experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years facilities, maintenance, construction or comparable experience.
  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age and have a valid drivers license.
  • Must be able to work outdoors, lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and be comfortable around water.
  • Experience working in a water related environment working with boats and docks a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to work some weekends.
  • Take pride and ownership in their work, seeking to improve the user experience by proactively performing maintenance duties.
  • Must be able to use a computer, tablet and smartphone.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides maintenance services for the entire park, which includes but are not limited to, restrooms, picnic areas, meeting facilities, grassland and wetland areas, playgrounds, shelters, nature trails, gates, bike trails and wildlife habitat areas.
  • Repairs and maintains park areas and buildings, performs minor repair and maintenance work.
  • Cleans, picks up and removes debris throughout the park, buildings, restrooms and facilities.
  • Assists with preparations needed of such facilities for athletic use, special events, recreation programming or other uses as necessary.
  • Follows instructions regarding materials, equipment and training to assure a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Performs basic tasks regarding irrigation and landscape maintenance.
  • Inspects the facilities and grounds daily and maintains free of hazards.
  • Interacts with the public with a professional demeanor and customer service outlook.
  • Other duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION 

  • This is a full-time position with an hourly starting salary range of $15 – $20.

Maintenance Clerk

  • Assists with scheduling outside contractors to perform work, organizes PO’s and invoices.
  • Follows instructions regarding materials, equipment and training to assure a safe work environment for self and others.
  • Inspects the facilities and grounds daily and maintains free of hazards.
  • Interacts with the public with a professional demeanor and customer service outlook.
  • Other duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION

This is a part-time position (20 hours a week) with an hourly starting salary range of $15 – $20.

Event Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The Event Coordinator for Nathan Benderson Park Conservancy (NBPC) at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida, will support the Director of Events and serve as an integral part of the Event Department. This position will be on the front lines of all events at the park, interacting with the public and a wide variety of event organizers from local festivals and charity runs to major international competitions. The primary role of this position is to work with the Director of Events to plan, execute and decommission all events at the park as well as providing superb customer service and experiences for our guests and volunteers. The Candidate should be detail orientated, self-sufficient and able to problem solve.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Nathan Benderson Park seeks an event professional with great work ethic and a passion for their role in planning and organizing events in Sarasota-Bradenton who has the following skills and experience:

  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience in event management, facility management, sport tourism or related field.
  • Must have a minimum education of an undergraduate degree in sport & event management, recreation and leisure services, venue management, hospitality & tourism or related field.
  • Must be able to lift, move, push and pull equipment and items in excess of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to move around the park on foot which includes grass, shell, paved areas, steps, sand and floating docks.
  • Must be comfortable with working in the outdoor Florida environment in extreme conditions which may be present.
  • Must be available to work most weekends and evenings, especially during event season (which is typically October through June).
  • Knowledge of aquatic sports, especially rowing would be a strong plus.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as an ambassador for the park and customer service representative for all event owners and space rental clientele.
  • Process and organize rental agreements and provide pricing for event amenities.
  • Execute event agreements through setup, execution and decommissioning.
  • Develop event layouts and work with the facility operations department to ensure all event holder needs are fulfilled.
  • Manage event related databases to include volunteers, event holders, catering companies and vendors.
  • Assist with the solicitation and management of vendors including contracts, determination and collection of fees, assignment and placement.
  • Organize and maintain a database of event-related supplies and equipment.
  • Schedule and manage event technicians and volunteers throughout the setup, execution and decommissioning of events.
  • Assist the facility operations department with maintaining a safe and presentable venue at all times.
  • Coordinate and contract with service providers to ensure all event needs are fulfilled.
  • Plan and execute events of various levels including community events, regional events, national events, international events, conferences, meetings, weddings and parties.
  • Produce post event reports including after-action reports, and ancillary items for billing.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

COMPENSATION

  • This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a starting range of $20-23/hour.

On-Call Event Technician I

POSITION SUMMARY

The On-Call Event Technician I for the Nathan Benderson Park Conservancy Inc. in Sarasota, Fla., will support the Event Department in providing excellent event services for an array of events ranging from corporate meetings to international / world-championship sporting competitions. This position is the backbone of event logistics and operations, assuring the venue is in pristine condition prior to, during and after the event. POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Nathan Benderson Park is looking for hardworking candidates, who take pride in their work, have a can-do attitude, and enjoy events and being outdoors in the Sarasota-Bradenton area who have the following skills and experience:
• Available to work an adjustable schedule dependent on the scheduled events. A shift may vary from four (4) to twelve (12) hours, including weekends and holidays. In addition, the position may be requested to work with less than two (2) weeks notice.
• Be dependable and show up on time to accepted shifts.
• Be able to lift at least 50 pounds without assistance.
• Be able to work in a non-climate controlled outdoor environment.
• Minimum Age is 18
• Provide of a valid Florida Driver’s License
• Must complete and pass a background check and drug test

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist the Director of Events to ensure events are properly setup, executed and broken down.
• Be familiar with or receive training on the operational requirements of various sporting events.
• Clean, stage and set up equipment including; tables, chairs, coolers, boat racks, trash cans, fencing, restroom supplies, picnic tables, sandbags and signage.
• Responsibilities during and following events include but are not limited to; trash removal, restroom stocking, restroom spot cleaning and conducting inventory while cleaning and storing event equipment.
• Assist in the repair or replacement of some event equipment.
• Receive training and adhere to required safety protocol.
• Assist with maintaining a safe and presentable venue.
• Possess good time management skills and take direction well.
• Work well under pressure and readily adapt to change.
• Communicate effectively with others.
• Adhere to a proper dress code when reporting for your scheduled shift. Closed toe shoes are required. Visible undergarments, torn, frayed, dirty or stained clothing are not permitted.
• Maintain a courteous demeanor with park guests.
• Become familiar with the history, mission and future of Nathan Benderson Park and be able to communicate this information effectively to park guests.
• Other duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION

• This is an on-call, part-time, non-exempt position with an hourly starting salary range of $14-$16.
