POSITION SUMMARY

The accounting assistant at Nathan Benderson Park will serve as support personnel for the finance department.  With over 130 events per year and a vast programming schedule, thousands of transactions are processed annually.  This part-time position will support our business growth and accounting department by processing invoices, transactions and expenses, as well as updating our accounting database.  Nathan Benderson Park is seeking an individual who wants to expand their accounting knowledge or has a passion for finance, but can only commit to a part-time schedule.  Impeccable organization skills and attention to detail, a respect for following policies, procedures and confidentiality, and the ability to keep a positive attitude and good sense of humor are all qualities vital to the ideal candidate.  

Nathan Benderson Park is a 600-acre Sarasota County park, operated and managed by Nathan Benderson Park Conservancy, Inc., a private 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was created for this purpose.  Since 2014, the park has hosted numerous international, national, regional and local events, averaging over 130 events per year.  Nathan Benderson Park was built as a multi-sport event center with a focus on water sports, and has established itself as the #1 Rowing and Paddling competition venue in North America and one of the top three in the world.  Nathan Benderson Park’s four priorities are to:

  • Establish and maintain a world-class multi-purpose event center that will enable a return on investment to benefit taxpayers and the state of Florida
  • Be an Olympic-level training center for regional, national and international athletes
  • Promote a better quality of life through health and wellness by providing opportunities to walk, run, bike, row, fish and more
  • Provide an entry point into aquatic and sports program through community outreach

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Nathan Benderson Park is looking for an enthusiastic advocate for sports, fitness and entertainment in Sarasota-Bradenton who has the following skills and experience:

  • High School Graduate, some college preferred.  
  • One (1) year experience working in accounting support preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • High level of detail and organization skills required.  
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.  
  • Ability to sit for a prolonged period of time.
  • Ability to sit at a desk and view a computer screen for long periods of time.
  • Able to speak into and use a telephone for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stoop and reach.  

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reviewing, coding and entering accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Reviewing and posting all checks, cash and ACH received.
  • Working closely with the event and program departments to ensure proper coding for event and program expenses.
  • Processing on-site and telephone payments for event, programming and other services as needed.
  • Assisting the Director of Finance in the monthly financial statement close and other accounting projects as needed.
  • Assisting with the onboarding and off-boarding of employees.
  • Answering phones and providing administrative office support.  

This is a part-time (20 hours a week) position reporting to the Director of Finance.  Schedule will be determined upon selecting the ideal candidate.  The hourly salary for this position is $18 – $23 per hour commensurate upon experience.
