DESCRIPTION:The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) is excited to announce that the 2025 CSCAA Open Water National Championship will take place on Saturday\, December 13\, 2025\, at the world-class Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota\, Florida.  USA Swimming has once again designated this event as an approved qualifying event. The top five finishers for each gender earn invites to the USA Swimming 5K Open Water Championships. \nThe move to Sarasota marks an exciting new chapter for the championship\, which began in Kansas thanks to the vision of Clark Campbell and has most recently been hosted by Florida International University (FIU). The CSCAA extends its sincere gratitude to Randy Horner and the entire FIU team for their years of exceptional support and hospitality at the Biscayne Bay Campus the last few years. \nThis year\, the event will be hosted in partnership with Visit Sarasota\, whose enthusiasm and commitment to making this event a success have been tremendous. Nathan Benderson Park\, a premier open water venue\, offers an ideal setting for student-athletes and fans to experience top-tier competition in a beautiful\, vibrant community. Try out paddling with no strings attached — if you’re ages 11 and older\, there’s a seat in the boat for you! \n\nThe NBP Paddling Program uses dragon boats\, outrigger canoes and more. Whether you’re interested in recreational paddling or you want to be competitive\, we have a place for you. Learn the basics of dragon boating \nWe provide the life jackets and paddles\, so bring your sense of adventure and teamwork! You’ll start with on-land training\, proper fit of a personal flotation device and paddle\, and then get an on-the-water orientation. \nNBP has several Dragon Boat Teams (Survivors in Sync know as SIS)\, All Cancer Team\, NBP Dragons with a womens and mixed team\, and the NBP VETERANS Team of Military Veterans). We will have a SEAT IN THE BOAT for anyone interested.\nIt is recommended to arrive 20 minutes early to get your provided gear on. Events at NBP include coastal rowing\, Olympic-style rowing\, sit-on-top recreational kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. CLICK HERE TO VIEW THE 2026 GULF COAST GAMES GUIDE. \nRegistration is now open for the 37th annual Gulf Coast Games for Life\, Senior Games. Open to amateur athletes aged 50 and older as of Dec. 31\, 2026\, the event features 16 competitions offering fun\, fellowship and fitness opportunities in January and February\, throughout Sarasota and Manatee counties. \nThe games are a collaborative effort between Sarasota County Parks\, Recreation and Natural Resources\, Manatee County Sports & Leisure Services and the City of North Port Parks and Recreation. The event kicks off with the 5K Road Race on Jan. 17\, 2026\, with additional events running from Jan. 24 through Feb. 21\, 2026.  Additional Gulf Coast Games for Life events include basketball shooting\, cycling\, pickleball\, rowing and paddling\, shuffleboard\, swimming\, table tennis and more. These games are designed to encourage and promote healthy lifestyles for Florida’s seniors and provide the opportunity to compete at the local\, state and national levels. \nA one-time registration fee of $13 is required which includes an event shirt\, with an additional $4 fee for each event. Some events may also have an additional facility fee. The registration deadline is two weeks prior to each event date

DESCRIPTION:Join Us for the NBP Paddle-a-Thon: A Community Event in Support of our growing and successful Outrigger canoe program! \nThe NBP Paddling Outrigger Club is thrilled to announce our upcoming Paddle-a-Thon on January 24 taking place at the picturesque Nathan Benderson Park from 6 am to 6 pm. This exciting event will last for 12 hours as we strive to complete 15 laps of 5k each in our OC6\, with a new lap every 45 minutes! \nPaddlers from various team divisions will be representing Women\, Men\, Military Veterans\, Breast Cancer Survivors\, All Cancer Survivors\, Seniors\, and Premier paddlers. The Paddle-a-Thon is not only an opportunity for friendly competition but also a chance to unite our community in support of enhancing our outrigger canoe program.  Last year we won major races in the mixed division\, including the Clearwater Classic\, Chattajack\, and Nish. Thanks to last year’s fundraiser\, we were able to get more paddlers racing this season\, and we’re projecting the program to expand even further in the coming year. \nSpectators are welcome to come out\, cheer on the participants\, and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere. We encourage everyone to consider making a donation to support our cause.
