Coach - Survivors In Sync Dragonboat Team
Though born in Ohio, Angela considers herself a Florida girl. She grew up in Fort Myers, got her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at University of South Florida, and has called Sarasota her home since 1996.
Since her breast cancer diagnosis in 2004, Angela Long has been dedicated to helping others affected by cancer. She founded Breast Investigators, an online comprehensive breast cancer resource network designed to help others find the information, care, and support resources they need. She also works with Team Tony Foundation to help cancer fighters and caregivers find support through peer mentors who have faced a similar journey.
In 2013, she was awarded the Stephen H. Goldman Keystone award for her work as an advocate in the cancer community and in 2016 was named Community Leader of the Year by Breast Cancer Wellness Magazine.
She brought dragon boating to Sarasota in 2013 when she started Survivor In Sync, to compete in the 2014 International Breast Cancer Survivor Paddler’s Commission Participatory Dragon Boat Festival at Nathan Benderson Park. Since then, she has studied under several revered coaches and has earned her Level One Dragon Boat Coaching accreditation. Survivors in Sync has developed into strong competitors in their division. In 2016 they won the Carol Lee Memorial Cup at the Tampa Bay International Dragon Boat Race.
